Build the Russian you will use.
The Academy provides Russian-language preparation. Discuss your starting point and intended programme to plan the next step.

Preparation starts with your needs.
Tell admissions how long you have studied Russian, how you use it and when you hope to begin your degree. If you are a beginner or have no language certificate, say so. This helps the Academy explain suitable preparation arrangements.
Ask about the format, start date, timetable, length, fees and any assessment. These details are agreed individually; do not assume a fixed preparatory year or that language study is included in degree tuition.
Teaching is in Russian. The bachelor’s, specialist and master’s rules include assessment of foreign applicants’ Russian through an entrance examination. Check the test requirements for your chosen route in the admissions rules (in Russian). Postgraduate applicants should use their separate admissions information (in Russian).
Language preparation, an entrance examination and admission to a degree are separate steps. Completing preparation does not guarantee admission. Ask whether any existing language certificate is relevant; do not assume that it replaces an entrance examination.
Practise for real academic tasks.
Everyday conversation is a useful start. University study also involves subject vocabulary, longer texts and explaining your ideas clearly. Use these tasks to discuss your needs with a teacher:
- Read a short text in your subject and explain its main point.
- Listen to an explanation and take notes in Russian.
- Ask a question when you do not understand a term.
- Write a short, structured answer about a topic you know.
These are planning suggestions, not an official language test or a required CEFR level. Keep a simple record of what you can do and where you need support.
Learn a few admissions terms too: приёмная комиссия means admissions office; вступительное испытание means entrance examination; зачисление means enrolment.
