Before you travel

Plan your entry and arrival together.

The Academy provides support with study-visa invitations. Start by confirming your programme, admission stage and intended arrival date.

Confirm the route for your circumstances.

Entry requirements depend on citizenship, passport type, purpose and length of stay. They are not determined by the country where you earned your qualification. Check the Foreign Ministry’s entry information (in Russian) and the Russian consulate responsible for your application.

Ask admissions about the invitation process, documents, timing and any related costs. An invitation supports a visa application; it is not a visa or an enrolment document. The consular authority decides whether to issue a visa.

Do not use a tourist or short-visit route as a substitute for permission to study. A short-stay visa exemption does not automatically cover long-term degree study. The official e-visa guidance does not list degree study among its permitted purposes.

Before booking travel.

  1. Confirm your admission stage and the date when the Academy expects you.
  2. Check the current consular checklist for your passport, invitation, application and any insurance or medical documents.
  3. Agree accommodation and a clear arrival contact; the Academy can help you find accommodation.
  4. Confirm the appropriate entry permission before committing to non-refundable travel.

Keep the Academy and consulate informed if your intended dates change. Use official visa information (in Russian) for the current process rather than an old checklist shared online.

Prepare for the first days.

Make a travel folder with the documents requested for entry and admission, your accommodation address, insurance details and the Academy’s contact information. Keep access to copies while storing originals safely.

Ask which migration or arrival records, registration, insurance, medical checks and fingerprint formalities apply to your status and intended length of stay, and what their deadlines are. Tell the receiving organisation promptly when you arrive and agree who will help you understand the next steps.

The national Study in Russia guide offers general planning information. Your individual checklist should match current official requirements. Continue with our Moscow and accommodation guide.

Your next step

Tell us about your study plans.

Send a short enquiry about a transfer or a future programme. Leave your email for a written reply; a phone number and a call are not required.

You can also ask about documents, Russian-language preparation, a study-visa invitation and accommodation.
